FAQ

How long will the therapy last?

This often depends on the age of the child or young person, the nature and severity of the problem, as well as the child or young person’s desire and willingness to engage in a treatment.

Work with babies, toddlers and children aged under five and their parents will usually begin with six sessions initially with the option of a further six sessions, if necessary.

For children aged 5-25yrs, following the five session assessment, work might be short-term (6-12 sessions), medium term (12-24 sessions), or long-term (1-2 years).

Practical Arrangements

Consistency is important. Sessions will begin and end at the specified time including if you are late arriving.

Please ring the bell at the time your session starts. There is a waiting room but I may not be able to let you in until the start of your session.

Parking is available nearby.

Holidays and Therapy Breaks

Regularity is important in therapy and breaks are also a necessary part of a therapeutic process. I will take planned breaks at Easter, Christmas and throughout August. If you have planned holidays outside of these times, please let me know as soon as you can.

Session Cancellations

Occasionally, you may need to cancel a session. This session time is protected for you or your child and fees may still apply. If given enough notice, I may be able to reschedule. If this is not possible, usual fees apply.

If I need to cancel, for example, due to sickness, no fee will be charged.

Fees

Fees are paid one month in arrears, and you will be sent an invoice toward the end of the month.

Ending Treatment

Ending therapy is not just a stopping point; it is a vital part of the therapeutic process itself. A planned, thoughtful, and prepared for ending allows children and young people to process their feelings about saying goodbye, celebrate their progress, and transition forward with a sense of completion and confidence.

To ensure the ending is therapeutic and well-supported, we typically discuss and plan it during a termly review. The time dedicated to the ending process depends on the length of our work together, but below are some general guidelines:

  • Short-term work: A minimum of three sessions notice

  • Medium-term work: A minimum of six sessions notice

  • Longer-term work: The ending is usually planned well in advance, often two to three months to allow plenty of time to consolidate the work

Confidentiality

What a child or young person shares in therapy is treated with respect and confidentiality. Having a private space in which they can speak, play or think freely is an important part of the therapeutic process.

I meet regularly with parents and carers, but these meetings are not usually used to report back on the detail of a child’s sessions. Instead they are used as a space to think together about the child is doing, any changes or concerns, and how best to support them.

There are limits to confidentiality. If i become concerned that a child or young person may be at risk of serious harm, I may need to share relevant information with parents, carers or other professionals. Wherever possible, I would discuss this with the child or young person first.
